Hey, I’m Ben. I quit my job as a corporate lawyer to start bthere after someone I love was sexually assaulted on a night out in college. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to work with an incredible team of creatives, activists and college students who all believe the same thing: we’re better when we’re together.
We’re working to create a world where we care a little bit less about the number of likes we get on our photos or how many people we have on our friends list, and a little bit more about one thing: the time we spend with our friends. We want to make it easier to be there for the people we love. If that sounds like something you’d like to be a part of, send us an email over on the contact page! I'll be the one that gets back to you.
When I'm not hopping between college campuses, you'll probably find me running around Town Lake with my dog, Huck. (In all seriousness, my side project is figuring out how bthere can reward us for spending time with our dogs. Stay tuned.)
Hey there, I’m Makenzi. I went to the University of Texas and studied History, Psychology, and Rhetoric + Writing. I started my career at Bumble in digital marketing, where I soon realized the power social networking apps have to affect positive social change. When Ben approached me about bthere's mission to get friends to spend more time together IRL and to create a practical safety tool, I was immediately on board. Being a part of bthere was important to me because I wanted to help ensure that students and young people (especially young women) could stay safe and connected with their friends and avoid some of the negative experiences I had in college. bthere is on track to do just that.
My dog, Wilson, and Ben’s dog, Huck, are also best friends - so it’s a perfect match, really. But you’ll never find me and Wilson running Town Lake (we're more sedentary types).
The heart and soul of bthere. bthere first launched at the University of Texas with this small team of interns and ambassadors (plus a few amazing folks that didn’t make the photo). They represent everything we love about our friends, and they’re always finding creative ways to carry the mission of bthere to parties, study halls, and late-night queso hangs. If you ever see them walking around campus, give them a high five for being the reason bthere exists.
